Transhumance in the Early Neolithic? Carbon and oxygen isotope insights into sheep husbandry at Arene Candide, Northern Italy

چکیده
Vertical transhumance is historically known as an animal management practice in the Mediterranean that mitigates risk of overgrazing and unpalatable pastures. It has long been debated whether developed together with spread Neolithic Europe or if it was adopted later. This study explores evidence for transhumant pastoralism at Arene Candide, Northern Italy during Neolithic. We examine carbon (δ13C) oxygen (δ18O) isotope values sequentially sampled sheep teeth from Early Middle layers Candide. The pattern reduced δ18O profile amplitude well inverse cyclical variation characterised by lower δ13C summer season suggest some analysed were moved to higher altitude pasture areas months. dating samples small-scale occurred Candide Cardial phase (5400–5300 BCE). Because sample size this small, remains difficult project a widespread region. Further studies kind will provide greater understanding development use vertical transhumance.

Theoretical insights into the encapsulation of anticancer Oxaliplatin drug into single walled carbon nanotubes
The present work was an attempt to evaluate the potentialities of using SWCNTs as nanovectors for drug delivery of anticancer drug Oxaliplatin. First-principles van der Waals density functional (vdW-DF) calculations are used to investigate the incorporation of oxaliplatin inside the typical semiconducting and metallic single wall carbon nanotubes with various diameters (SWCNTs). Adsorption ener...
متن کاملSulfur and oxygen isotope insights into sulfur cycling in shallow-sea hydrothermal vents, Milos, Greece
Shallow-sea (5 m depth) hydrothermal venting off Milos Island provides an ideal opportunity to target transitions between igneous abiogenic sulfide inputs and biogenic sulfide production during microbial sulfate reduction. Seafloor vent features include large (>1 m(2)) white patches containing hydrothermal minerals (elemental sulfur and orange/yellow patches of arsenic-sulfides) and cells of su...
متن کاملStructural insights into the effects of charge-reversal substitutions at the surface of horseradish peroxidase
Horseradish peroxidase (HRP), has gained significant interests in biotechnology, especially in biosensor field and diagnostic test kits. Hence, its solvent-exposed lysine residues 174, 232, and 241 have been frequently modified with the aim of improving its stability and catalytic efficiency. In this computational study, we investigated the effects of Lys-to-Glu substitutions on HRP structure t...
متن کاملMAVEN insights into oxygen pickup ions at Mars
Since Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN)’s arrival at Mars on 21 September 2014, the SEP (Solar Energetic Particle) instrument on board the MAVEN spacecraft has been detecting oxygen pickup ions with energies of a few tens of keV up to ~200 keV. These ions are created in the distant upstream part of the hot atomic oxygen exosphere of Mars, via photoionization, charge exchange with s...
